FORT MYERS, Fla. – DJ Passaround said he had a terrible feeling when a performance was stopped at the end of a teen party at Club Blu early Monday morning. “When the show got stopped, in my mind — I’m shaking — ’cause I’m like ‘Oh my God. It’s now about to get real,” he said. People left the club angry, some even demanding their money back, Passaround said. He suspected a fight might break out, so he tried to keep the teenagers inside. “I tried to grab as many people inside. Told them ‘Stay inside. Don’t go,'” Passaround said. But there was no fight. Instead, a number of gunmen sprayed bullets on a crowd of teenagers, killing two and injuring 18 others. There were rumors that the club would be targeted, according to Passaround. But those were just rumors he did not know to be 100 percent true. On Monday, when he opened the front entrance to Club Blu, he immediately questioned his role in the shooting. “I didn’t know people was getting shot or I thought people was a shooting in the air ’til I opened the the door. I’m like ‘Oh my God. What did I do?'” Passaround said. Passaround wishes he could have done something different and said he wonders what would have happened had he spoken up about letting the performance continue. “I feel horribly responsible because it’s the party I did,” Passaround said. “I should have let the performance happen.” The DJ said he doesn’t want anyone else to feel guilty. He said the burden of the shooting is on him. “If anybody could get mad and you feel responsible, I want to say it was my fault. I’m sorry. I tried as much — even the people that was inside the club. I tried to save — I wanted to say I’m sorry,” he said. Passaroud said the party had armed security as required. Had he changed the party flier, which has received disapproval from the club owner, Passaround said he now believes things could have been worst.
