FORT MYERS, Fla. — A former Lee Memorial Health Systems emergency room nurse admitted to stealing powerful drugs while on the job for his personal use, police said.

Fort Myers resident Alex Rodriguez, 28, of 3787-324 Winkler Ave., faces 132 charges related to drugs, forgery and fraud and is in jail on $650,000 bond. Police say that over a four-month period he exploited Pyxis, a system hospitals use to manage medicine supplies, to gain access to the drugs.

At one point he replaced a supply of morphine with a saline solution, according to police. That raised concerns about contamination, since he did so while in a bathroom, police said.

Rodriguez has since been fired.
