Red tide spreads to Lee County

Published: Updated:

BOCA GRANDE, Fla. — Red tide has spread to the beaches in Boca Grande, causing the National Weather Service to issue a red tide alert for Northern Lee County.

The alert was issued on Thursday and will last through Saturday.

Reports from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission show the red tide is flowing south between Pinellas and Lee counties for the next three days.

The red tide is responsible for killing hundreds of fish and the respiratory issues that have been reported in Pinellas, Manatee and Sarasota counties.
