LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – About 500 voters from Lehigh Acres will not be able to vote for local candidates after a mapping error at the Lee County Elections Office failed to include them within their correct district, Vicki Collins of the Lee County Elections Office announced Thursday.

The district in question is the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, which is located between Interstate-75 and the Lee-Hendry counties line with state roads 80 and 82 as northern and southern boundaries, respectively.

The elections office’s mapping system did not recognize about 500 voters as residents of this district when it should have, Collins said. It means that candidates running for office in the district were excluded from hundreds of ballots. The error will not be immediately addressed. The Lee County Elections Office said it will wait until after election results are reported to decide if action is needed.

Affected voters will be able to vote for all other candidates who are running for office.
