PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) – Hundreds of people were in attendance as Florida Sen. Marco Rubio stopped in Southwest Florida as part of his campaign for re-election Tuesday.
He was scheduled to speak at 4:15 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Wall at Laishley Park.
His race against Patrick Murphy is as much about the presidential nominees as it is about the senate candidates, as Murphy tries to tie Rubio to Donald Trump.
Murphy, the Democratic Party nominee, contends the Republican Senator is still supporting Trump despite calling him a dangerous conman. And Rubio has attacked Murphy for saying he supports Hillary Clinton “100 percent” even though most Floridians don’t trust her.
