PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Several passengers were left stranded at Punta Gorda airport Thursday after Frontier Airlines canceled and their flight from Punta Gorda to Chicago.

John Kavanaugh, who was flying to visit his elderly mother, was one of the passengers who received this unwelcome surprise.

“I get here,” Kavannaugh said. “Today’s the first day of flights up to Chicago out of Punta Gorda and there’s no airplane. They have no flight number.”

Frontier Airlines said the confusion resulted from when they rescheduled today’s flight to Nov. 8, stating they notified passengers of the change weeks ago via email.

Kavanaugh was given a $100 voucher but was forced to book his flight to Rockford and will drive two hours to see his mother.

“I was trying to get a lower fare which I did and I paid the price,” Kavanaugh said.
