SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. – An elderly couple died after a fatal two-car crash that happened Friday not far from their home on Summerlin Road.

Betty Mabie, 87, lived with George Mabie, 89, on a lot at the Siesta Bay RV Resort on the 19000 block of Summerlin Road. A car was attempting to exit the RV park by making a left turn onto Summerlin Road, Lee County deputies said. But George Mabie crashed into that car.

The Mabies were taken to the hospital where they both died, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Betty died Saturday morning while George died Saturday night, deputies said. George is being blamed for the accident.

Deputies are still investigating the crash. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
