Convicted Lee County child molester sentenced to life in prison

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A judge sentenced 75-year-old Nelson “Sandy” Sanderson to life in prison for “two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation,” a Lee County Clerk of Court official said.

Although these allegations were originally reported in 2012, Sanderson was at large for four years before he was captured in Nicaragua, according to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

U.S. Marshals transported Sanderson back to the United States, authorities said. He faced two counts of child molestation, and was found guilty on Oct. 20.

“There are cases involving murders, horrible crimes, and then there are cases such as this where there was no physical injury, there was devastating mental injury,” Judge Thomas Reese said. “It is the intention of this court that you never again see the light of day, except through bars and prison fences.”
