Charlotte High girls basketball coach resigns

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Charlotte High School girls basketball coach Michael Robishaw resigned Thursday, school spokesman Mike Riley said.

Assistants Christopher Robishaw and Julie Ryan also stepped down. The school named Matt Stephenson interim head coach. He’ll be assisted by his brother, Chris, and Jaime Zaharuk.

The moves come just one game into the season and hours before a scheduled game at Island Coast. That game has been postponed. Riley did not specify a makeup date.

The resignations were not forced, but the district had been investigating complaints against the program, the spokesman said, adding that a player who had been cut has been reinstated. The school did not identify that player.

Charlotte is 1-0 after a 78-33 win Tuesday against G. Holmes Braddock, a school from Miami-Dade County.
