‘Slide the City’ fans still plagued by disappointment

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Slide the City fans and organizers have continued to face numerous setbacks as the event date gets closer.

The event was supposed to feature a giant waterslide on Edison Bridge, but changing venues and the lack of proper permitting applications to host the event left fans with two options: get a refund or wait until the makeup date on December 17.

Event organizers published a video on the event’s Facebook page on Sept. 17, promising refunds would be issued in a timely manner.

However, people like Russel Panos, who opted for the refund, have yet to receive their money.

“They asked for a comment, sent it, didn’t hear back from them,” Panos said. “Looked at my email, checked the junk mail, checked everything, did not receive any response from them.”

While Mary Sprauge admitted she finally received her refund, she still believes event organizers should be held responsible.

“They’re more than just a little upset, just because we work hard for our money so they expect it back,” Sprague said.

Lee County officials said they’ve had no recent contact with the organizers and the Florida Department of Transportation hasn’t received an application nor the supporting documents from Slide the City organizers.

The event organizers couldn’t be reached for comment.
