GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. –A 10-acre brush fire took place near Ninth Street Southwest Friday afternoon, the North Collier Fire District said.

The North Collier Fire District and the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District battled the blaze for several hours, which threatened four homes.

However, the firefighters were able to contain the fire and no homes were damaged.

The Florida Forest Service warned Friday’s fire marks the beginning of an active wildfire season.

“Its one of those things we’re trying to get the word out right now,” said Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Samantha Quinn. “Any little thing could spark a wildfire. We want everyone to be cautious and careful with New Year’s Eve coming up.”

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
