FELDA, Fla. — One person was hospitalized following a chemical explosion Monday morning at Paramount Chemicals and Plastics, according to a Hendry County official. The chemical explosion happened around 7:12 a.m. and injured an employee of the plant, who was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital and is believed to be in critical condition. The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and Immokalee Fire Control District responded. Hazmat cleared the scene. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and will be taking over the investigation, according to a Hendry County official. The explosion happened inside the facility and had no impact on the surrounding environment, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection said.
