CAPE CORAL, Fla. — City Council voted unanimously Monday to ask the state to leave it out of a fire district consolidation plan.
The statehouse bill, proposed by Rep. Matt Caldwell, would give voters a chance to decide whether they want to join a countywide fire district. But Cape Coral council members cited cost and the potential erosion of autonomy as they argued against it.
