OCHOPEE, Fla. A giant fire in the Big Cypress National Preserve is 60 percent contained, the National Park Service said Monday.

The fire, which started March 18 and is known as the Parliament Fire, is burning 26,371 acres. It’s forced on-and-off closures of U.S. 41 and shuttered recreational facilities within the preserve.

No one has been hurt. More than 100 people have worked on crews from multiple firefighting agencies to tame the blaze, according to the park service.

The crews are also fighting two smaller fires within the preserve. One is covering 30 acres and another is burning 10, the park service said.
