FORT MYERS, Fla. The man convicted of killing a woman in a 2016 drive-by shooting was formally sentenced to life in prison Tuesday.

Sheddrick Jubree Brown Jr., 22, of Fort Myers, was found guilty on April 5 for second-degree murder after shooting Fort Myers resident Gloria Sparrow, 63, in the head in April 2016 in her home.

He faced a judge Tuesday morning in a procedural hearing because the judge neglected to inform him of the mandatory minimum sentence when Brown had to be restrained by law enforcement following the announcement of his guilty verdict.

The mandatory minimum sentence was 50 years, but he was sentenced to life in prison.

Brown was also convicted on charges of discharging a firearm from a vehicle, a weapon offense, property damage of $100 or more, and possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon, according to court documents.
