CAPE CORAL, Fla. Two men are facing charges for a March shooting that led to a car crash.

Franky Quamaine Cruz Jr., 17, of Westcreek Circle North in Fort Myers, and Aaron Ladarrell Atkins, 23, of Northeast Seventh Avenue in Cape Coral, were arrested Tuesday, the Cape Coral Police Department said.

Cruz was riding in the back seat of a vehicle when he shot at another car they were chasing, according to a police report. Atkins drove the car and told police he didn’t know Cruz was going to use a gun.

Cruz faces two counts of attempted second-degree murder and remained in the Lee County Jail on Wednesday under no bond. His next scheduled court date is May 15.

Atkins also faces two attempted murder charges, as well as multiple weapons and probation-related counts. He’s at the Lee County Jail on $325,000 bond.

The victim, who remains unidentified, sustained non-life threatening injuries after being shot in his left arm, the report said.

The shooting occurred after the victim and his ex-girlfriend were involved in a physical altercation during a party, the report said. The victim and a second person were driving when shots were fired from another vehicle, the report said. Their vehicle then hit a light pole on the 300 block of Del Prado Boulevard, police said.

It is believed the shooting was in retaliation for the physical altercation, the report said.
