MARCO ISLAND, Fla. Marco Island Police are increasing patrols right now after someone allegedly tried to grab a child.

The incident happened Tuesday as a 12-year-old girl walked home along greenview street from Marco Island Charter Middle School. She says a stranger asked her if she needed a ride home, and when she ignored him, he yelled at her to get in his car.

The girl then screamed, ran to hide in some bushes and called her mom.

As kids were getting out of school today there was a visible increase in police presence due to the incident.

One father, Brett Anderson, told us he left work to walk his children home from school today, even though he lives only a couple blocks away, “It’s a little concerning knowing somebody’s out there.” he said.

The girl told Marco island Police the man is in his late 50’s or 60’s with gray hair and a beard. He has a thin build and was wearing glasses.

The vehicle is described as a tan, four door with tinted windows.

Police say they don’t have enough information to put out a sketch of what the man looks like.
