Man arrested for hit-and-run in North Port

On Saturday, North Port Police Department Arrested James Robert Collins, 80, for a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian on a bicycle.

According to the NPPD Twitter post, the crash happened around 11: 40 p.m. at the intersection of E. Price Boulevard and Hay Place in North Port.

What was determined to be a Nissan pickup truck driven by Collins hit someone riding a bicycle. Police responded to the scene of the crash, and the injured pedestrian was taken to an area hospital via trauma helicopter.

Police searched for the Nissan and found Collins driving it near Toledo Blade Boulevard. Collins was ultimately arrested and faces a charge for Leaving The Scene Of A Crash Involving Serious Bodily Injury.

The victim’s name is not being released at this time.
