Already this year 27 school threats cases made by teens have come in to the state attorney’s office in Lee County, and that is 7 more than all of 2018.

State Attorney, Amira Fox warns that your child could face prison time, even if they think their threat is a joke.

If your child makes any kind of threat they will face severe consequences at school, and they could also be arrested and slapped with criminal charges by State Attorney Fox.

“We don’t know if we are dealing with just a jokester who is really, really dumb, immature or if we are dealing with someone who is going to go in to school and actually shoot it up. We take it like it is number 2,” Fox said.

Being a young teenager doesn’t mean you will get a light sentence.

“If the crime is serious enough, they are 16 or 17 years old, and they have a lot of history of danger,” Fox said. “That is someone we will put in to adult court so they could be facing prison time.”

That comes with charges of a second degree felony, and that could ruin any future career plans.

If your child is caught making school threats that lead to criminal charges, some other sentences include community service hours, mental health programs or rehab diversion programs.
