When it comes to signing your kids up for summer camp, there are usually many options. But with the COVID-19 pandemic, many camps are changing the way they operate. Some are just doing virtual camp while others are waiting until later in the summer.

So we went ahead and called around to see who is open and what they are doing to make sure your kids are safe.

Who is open?

Lee County

Lee County Parks & Recreation summer camp plans continue to be finalized; camp will begin June 15. At this time, no new registration is being accepted. Parks staff booked more than 3,000 camp reservations when the 2020 camp registration opened in February.

Announcements about camp, county operations and other information will be forthcoming; check leegov.com/covid-19 or the Lee County Government Facebook page.

Cape Coral Summer Camp: Registration began May 12. Tentatively, summer camp for children entering kindergarten through 8th grade will begin June 15. Changes include no field trips, smaller groups and increased disinfecting and sanitation. The camper to instructor ratio will be 9 to 1.

Collier County

There will be a 9 to 1 camper to counselor ratio. They’ve organized activities with social distancing, no field trips, and will have temperature checks for counselors and campers. Camp is limited to full summer enrollment only to limit contact between different people. Cleaning will be done on an ongoing basis throughout the day. There will be no before or after care.
