The Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare checkup that turned into a shootout with deputies on Wednesday.

According to CCSO, deputies responded to a home in the Willoughby Acres community, where they conducted a welfare checkup on a man who was believed to be alone inside and also had access to weapons.

At that point, deputies formed a large perimeter out of an abundance of caution.

During the response, deputies made contact with the man, who went outside the home with a gun on him. The man went back into the home and fired shots toward deputies, who returned fire.

Negotiations continued, and the man fired shots toward deputies for a second time, but the deputies did not return fire.

A K-9 was sent into the home and took down the man inside. He was arrested and faces several different felony charges.

There were no members of CCSO injured.

Willoughby Acres is off Immokalee Road between Airport-Pulling Road and Livingston Road in North Naples.
