A Port Charlotte truck driver was killed Monday morning in a crash involving six vehicles on I-75 in Sarasota County.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the driver, a 46-year-old man, was headed south in a semi tanker containing powdered concrete when he was unable to stop for traffic backed up from another crash down the road at Jacaranda Boulevard.

His truck overturned and came to rest within the lanes of travel. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The southbound lanes of I-75 at Laurel Road have reopened, but traffic remains slow due to the crash scene still being investigated and cleared.

Troopers also say a 43-year-old man from Kissimmee and a 43-year-old man from Sarasota suffered serious injuries in the crash.

No one else involved in the crash was injured.
