The Florida Department of Health-Lee (FDOH-Lee) and Lee County Government announced that the COVID-19 vaccination site will be relocated to the former Sears location at the Edison Mall, 4003 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers. This is anticipated to begin the week of April 12. FDOH-Lee selected a fully climate-controlled location due to increasing seasonal temperatures and humidity, as well as soon-to-come summer thunderstorms. The FDOH-Lee current vaccination site is located in temporary structures near Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and has been open since early January. People with existing appointments at the RSW site are not affected by today’s announcement. Vaccinations will be administered at RSW this week and into next week. While waiting for a vaccine at the current site, Bud and Lisa Marston from Cape Coral said they got “soaking wet by the time we got up in there, and you walked up in there where the fans are, then you got cold. The new location will prevent that from happening in the future. According to a news release, the new site is centrally located along public transportation routes, is about 5 miles from Interstate 75, and offers ample parking. It is easily accessed and could accommodate expanded evening and weekend hours of operation. The site will vaccinate eligible individuals registered through the State of Florida website, myvaccine.fl.gov, or 866-200-3468. Gov. Ron DeSantis recently expanded eligibility to everyone age 40 and older and for all remaining adults effective Monday, April 5. Individuals who leave the RSW site today with first doses will be told on site to come to the new indoor site for their second doses at an appointed date and time. Individuals who received first doses at RSW between March 18 and Tuesday, March 30, will receive a call in the coming weeks from the state’s vendor, Tidal Basin, to schedule their second-dose appointments at the indoor site. Regardless of where an individual’s vaccination will be administered – at the RSW site or the future, indoor site – people are asked to expedite the process and print and complete the COVID-19 Vaccine Screening and Consent Form before arrival for both first and second doses. Complete information can be found at leegov.com/vaccine, People can visit Lee County Government Facebook and other social media channels (leegov.com/socialmedia). Monitor Florida DOH’s Twitter @flhealthlee or visit floridahealthcovid19.gov. Anyone who no longer needs an existing appointment scheduled at the RSW site should email LeePIO@Flhealth.gov and put “Cancel reservation” in the subject line. In the body of the email, include name and date of birth. COLLIER COUNTY Due to the upcoming rainy season, along with the heat and humidity, DOH-Collier will move to a walk-thru site at North Collier Regional Park Exhibit Hall beginning April 5.
