Collier County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who they say was in possession of enough fentanyl to kill more than 2,000 people.

Deputies pulled over 23-year-old Steven Estiverne near the 300 block of North 15th Street. They say they could smell, and see marijuana inside of the car when they approached him. Deputies did not release the original reason for stopping Estiverne.

Estiverne’s car was searched and deputies say they found 4.26 grams of fentanyl, enough to kill 2,130 people. They say they also found 21.4 grams of marijuana, $24,960 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

Collier County Sherriff Kevin Rambosk said in a press release Monday, “Fentanyl is a deadly drug and has no place in Collier County.” He went on to say, “Once again, with this arrest, our hardworking and committed deputies are continuing to send a message that fentanyl and those who traffic it won’t be tolerated in our community.”

Estiverne is being held in Collier County jail facing charges of fentanyl trafficking, along with charges for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Deputies say that at the time of the arrest, he was out on bond following an arrest back in August for carrying a concealed firearm and possession of more than four pounds of marijuana.
