A man was arrested after Marco Island police say he bit and kicked them following a bar fight on Saturday night.

Marco Island police say they were doing a bar check just after 1 a.m. when they saw a group of men fighting at the Sand Bar. Police say the men began shouting at them when they went to break up the fight.

Officers say they noticed a man, later identified as Zachary Rigsby, 32, of Wisconsin, was fighting with a bar bouncer. They pulled Rigsby away from that fight and noticed he had a large cut above his eye.

An officer who told Rigsby to stop fighting says Rigsby began to fight him. That officer held Rigsby on the ground until additional officers arrived to handcuff him.

Officers say Rigsby intentionally kicked them and spat blood at them while detained. They say he then asked each officer for their badge number and threatened to kill them and their entire family.

Marco Island police had EMS come to treat the cut on Rigsby’s face. Police say Rigsby kicked one of the officers again and was uncooperative with EMS, who told officers they would not transport him to the hospital, fearing their safety.

Police decided to transport Rigsby to the hospital in a patrol car. While they were helping him into the patrol car, an officer says Rigsby bit his arm. Police say Rigsby also threatened hospital staff when he was at the hospital.

After being treated, Rigsby was taken to the Naples Jail without any further attacks on police.

Rigsby faces four counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting, disorderly conduct, four counts of intimidating an officer through the threat of death, and four counts of intimidating the officer’s families through the threat of death.
