Cape roof mishap

A couple is working to solve an unusual problem after a roofing company mistakenly took tiles off their roof in Cape Coral. The company said they were supposed to be at the house next door.

The couple is just hoping to find a solution to get their roof fixed.

CMR Construction met with Suzy Rigins and Tommy Acken at their Cape Coral home Tuesday afternoon. Four days after Rigins woke up to crews mistakenly removing tiles from their roof. “I got dressed and went outside, and there were ten roofers on my roof pulling out the tiles! So I came out and started yelling, what are you doing? What are you doing? They’re looking at me like what are you doing?” said Rigins.

Rigins said the crew told her the GPS brought them to her house. A day after WINK News aired a story about the incident, Target Roofing and Sheet Metal stopped by the home to take a look and make some temporary repairs.

“We took some cap sheet which is like a barrier and put that down too make sure that there wouldn’t be any water that can get in,” said Target Roofing and Sheet Metal Vice President Evlyn Portinari.

For the permanent fix, a statement from CMR says the company found potential replacement tiles and will present them to the couple for review and approval. The statement says the company’s call logs show they have been in “constant contact” with the homeowners since the event occurred on Friday. With this plan part of that communication.

Rigins begs to differ, “I don’t know where they get that from. I don’t know who they had constant communication with. No. It wasn’t until this man called yesterday like 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock, and said I’m from the CMR and we ordered the tiles and I didn’t know what he was talking about.”

These homeowners said they want this resolved. “We don’t have no cross to bear here you know nothing. Just, we want to get it fixed. That’s all,” said Tommy Acken.
