A Collier County man was found guilty Thursday night of the first-degree murder of his wife in 2018.

According to state attorney documents, Raymond Colon, 55, was found guilty after the jury had deliberated for around 30 minutes following a nine-day trial in Collier County. Colon was indicted on one count of first-degree murder by a Collier County grand jury on March 26, 2019.

The crime happened on December 9, 2018, when a 911 call was received from a woman, Victoria Medina, who said, “He has a gun, he has a gun, he’s going to kill me…. he just shot me.” An additional 911 call came in about a man, later identified as the defendant, walking down a driveway, holding a gun, who then got into a white SUV.

Deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded in minutes. As the first deputy arrived, a white SUV pulled up behind the patrol car, in front of the Naples residence. A neighbor yelled out to the deputy that the driver was the man they had seen fleeing the home. Colon was immediately taken into custody.

Medina was found on the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.
