A vendor doing work at the Target store Iona, died Tuesday morning after being electrocuted.

According to a report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a man working with an outside vendor was on a lift performing work on a light fixture at the back of the store in the warehouse area.

Around 4:30 a.m. the victim’s colleague brought him tools and water and left. When the co-worker returned around 6:30 a.m. the victim, still on top of the lift, did not respond.

The co-worker lowered the lift and found the victim deceased.

LCSO said the cause of death was determined to be accidental electrocution. OSHA is also investigating

Target released the following statement in reference to the death at the store located at 15880 San Carlos Blvd:

“Early Tuesday morning a vendor passed away inside our Ft. Meyers (sic) Beach store. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, co-workers and friends. Our team immediately called 911, and we are working with the Lee County Sheriff’s department to provide whatever is needed for their investigation. Due to the ongoing nature of that investigation, we’ll refer additional questions to law enforcement at this time.”
