The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Thursday evening to assist with the investigation into a threat that was made by a student that attends Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda.

CCSO detectives made contact with the student and his family at their Punta Gorda home.

CCSO said the threat was “investigated thoroughly and was determined to be unfounded. No threat was made regarding specific students or even identifying a specific school.”

“The safety and security of our students will always be our first priority. As parents ourselves, we know the fear these situations create and I want to assure you that my staff investigates them extensively and expeditiously,” states Sheriff Bill Prummell.

As a reminder to parents and students, always report suspicious activity or concerning content to local law enforcement. Concerns can also be reported through FortifyFL which is instantly relayed to appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials.

The Punta Gorda Police Department is the lead agency on this investigation with support from CCSO.
