12-year-old arrested, accused of shooting threat at Fort Myers Middle Academy

A 12-year-old girl was arrested at Fort Myers Middle Academy after she threaten to have her brother shoot the school up because she was hit with a paper airplane.

On August 30, a Fort Myers Police Department dispatch received a call regarding a school threat.

Note from the call said a student called their grandmother to tell her about another student threatening to have her brother shoot the school up, according to a Fort Myers police report.

The officer spoke with the assistant principal, who said they were aware of the threat made. The assistant principal said he removed the two students that were involved.

According to a Fort Myers police report, the principal said one student said they were making paper airplanes and throwing them in class. The student told the principal they threw one of the airplanes at a friend but instead, it hit the girl on the ear. The girl walked to the back of the classroom and shouted she would have her brother shoot the school.

An FMPD officer checked the girl’s backpack and made sure there were no weapons on school property, there were none.

The girl’s mother was contacted and made aware of the situation. The mother was asked if there were any weapons in her home. The mother told the officers that there was her deceased brother’s firearm and a concealed weapons permit in the home.

The girl was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for charges of a false report of using a firearm in a violent manner.
