Crash in DeSoto kills 2, including 13-year-old boy

Two people riding in a John Deere utility vehicle in DeSoto County died after a vehicle slammed into them on County Road 660.

A 33-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy, both passengers in the utility vehicle died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on County Road 660 and US-17. The driver of the utility vehicle, a 39-year-old man, sustained serious injuries, FHP said. A third passenger, a 10-year-old boy sustained serious injuries as well.

Troopers said a sedan driven by a 24-year-old Arcadia man was traveling behind the John Deere vehicle on County Road 660 when it collided with them. The driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries.

The impact resulted in all four John Deere riders being ejected. The woman was pronounced dead on scene. The 13-year-old was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The crash remains under investigation.

There were road closures in the area resulting from the crash, which has since cleared.
