Gator Mike’s Family Fun Park in Cape Coral is being renovated to make way for a new project.

At first glance, the park looks only like a construction site but the park is still open for business.

The amusement park is planning a $15 million renovation. The newest additions are already under construction.

Laurel Collier, a Fort Myers resident said, “I think it’s a great idea. I don’t think we have enough activities for kids down here in Southwest Florida.”

A Mellow Mushroom will be built during the renovation and a new mini golf course known as Dinosaur Falls will bring players back to prehistoric times.

Rosie Perez, a Cape Coral resident said, “I guess I was excited because I have a 3-year-old and that’s was the first thing he noticed was ‘oh look the dinosaurs.'”

Dinosaur Falls will feature several four-legged friends with selfie stations to bring a modern-day twist focused around one main attraction a fire erupting volcano.

Jackman Ferguson, a Cape Coral resident said, “That’s gonna be awesome, super excited to see that go off, especially if it looks realistic too.”

The owner said the volcano will be as real as possible shooting out 60 feet of fire every day. The site is expected to bring in about 900 visitors per day

And while some people are sad to see attractions like the batting cages go away others are excited to see what’s to come.

“I used to come here when I was younger so it’s really nice to bring my kids here too and to see the changes,” Perez said.

The owners haven’t announced what will replace the drive-in but Gator Mike’s loyalists have some ideas.

“Gotta see gators at Gator Mike’s. That’d be pretty sweet actually,” Ferguson said.

Collier said the park should add a mini petting zoo.

“It’s really hot out all year round and there are a few areas that we have like, the splash pads. So yeah, something in a cooler area,” Perez said.
