A 42-year-old man is in Collier County jail after deputies say he broke into a home and stole more than $1,000 worth of tools and ammunition.

Joel Serrano faces multiple felony charges, including burglary, grand theft, dealing in stolen property, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Detectives said Serrano broke into the victim’s home Saturday while the victim was on vacation and stole more than $1,000 worth of tools and ammunition.

The break-in was captured on the victim’s home security system. The victim reported the break-in to CCSO on Tuesday.

A deputy who reviewed the video immediately identified Serrano as the person seen committing the break-in based on his frequent law enforcement encounters with Serrano over the years.

Serrano ran out the back of his residence when deputies showed up to arrest him yesterday, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies ran after him and found him hiding in some bushes and took him into custody. Further investigation revealed Serrano sold the tools to another individual for $150.
