The City Manager of Sanibel, Dana Souza, released the latest information to the public during his daily press conference on Friday afternoon.

After beginning the press conference with several thank-yous, Souza mentioned an “unsung hero,” Crystal Mansell. Souza said Mansell has done “a great job,” explaining how she has been helpful across multiple areas.

Then, Souza began speaking about USAR Damage Assessment and said that information continues to get updated on the website.

Souza explained there has been a team designed by IT that has been on Sanibel taking as many pictures of structures as possible. That’s because “that was a gap that we had from the USAR team, and we wanted to provide that,” Souza said.

As soon as that is completely done all those pictures will be available on the map so residents can see their risk assessment.

The next topic that Souza covered was the police department. The curfew on Sanibel from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. will remain in effect for the time being.

Souza discussed Friday was the third day of the return and Souza remarked that “everything was orderly.” However, it remains difficult for drivers on the island, but there were also fewer vehicles on the road Friday than before.

In terms of the roadways, Souza reminded that in a previous press conference he said “100% of the roads were cleared for access,” and now officials continue to make sure there are wider roads.
