Lee County schools and the Miami Dolphins partnered together to have a food distribution event at North Fort Myers High School.

Close to 2,000 hot meals were prepared from just one food vendor. There were a lot of families seeking food, water, baby items, and to meet the Miami Dolphins players as well.

While school is still out, North Fort Myers High School is giving back. On Tuesday, the school served as a food distribution site to help families get back on their feet.

Rob Spicker, the spokesperson for the Lee County School District shared some thoughts with WINK News about the event.

“There could easily be another 1000 or 1500 families coming through in terms of looking for supplies, looking for donations looking for a good meal,” Spicker said .

The World Central Kitchen from Miami came out to provide hot meals to families.

Shannon Thomas, an employee at World Central Kitchen also shared some thoughts about the event with WINK News.

“There’s a great lot of families that are in need of a good hot meal. There’s no water, no electricity down here. So we’re just trying to provide, you know, a home-cooked meal for everyone in the community,” Thomas said.

The kitchen plans to continue to do so for the rest of the week.

The Miami Dolphins and student-athletes from North Fort Myers also allowed people to score household items like generators, paper towels, baby items, and more.

“The fall athletes have been invited to come volunteer today to help distribute food to give them an activity, bring them back to the school and keep them together as a group so that they have some that normalcy,” Spicker said.

Coming together to show support and show that we are all Gulfshore strong.
