The school district said the lockdown was lifted quickly and said it was prompted when a student ran from school resource officers. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a tip about suspicious activity and then a student was arrested for having a gun on campus.

And over at Fort Myers Middle School, a sixth-grade girl was arrested. Fort Myers police said she posted a threat to Instagram saying, “Let mister Terrence go, or ima be shooting up the school idc.”

The girl confessed to the threat but said it was only a joke.

A student at DeSoto Middle was also arrested on Tuesday. The district said a student reported a possible weapon on campus. During lockdown, a student was found with a toy gun.

All three students face disciplinary action at their school, along with criminal charges.
