Based on the hit 1982 film starring Dustin Hoffman, the musical “Tootsie” plays from April 4 to April 9 at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall at Florida SouthWestern State College.

The film tells the story of Michael Dorsey, a talented but volatile actor whose reputation for being difficult drives him to adopt a new identity as a woman to land a job. In the musical, however, updated to the 21st century, Dorsey disguises himself as “Dorothy Michaels” not to land a role on a soap opera, but to get cast in a Broadway musical.

“Tootsie” is a hilarious musical comedy and love letter to the theater that gives a peek behind the curtain at the mounting of a Broadway show.
