Sunday brings scattered storm chances to Southwest Florida

Published: Updated:

High temperatures will reach the upper 80s and 90s under partly cloudy skies. It will be a humid afternoon with winds out of the southwest at ten to fifteen miles per hour. Boaters will encounter good conditions on the water if they can dodge any storms. One to two-foot Gulf wave heights and a light chop is expected.

Scattered showers and storms are in Sunday’s forecast. While a few showers will be possible in the late morning, the first main round of rain and storms will likely kick off after lunchtime. These will first form along and east of I-75 before pushing inland and expanding their coverage this evening.

A few of these could be on the strong side. For that reason, we now have a marginal (1/5) severe weather outlook in place for a large portion of Southwest Florida. Damaging straight-line winds, isolated flooding, lightning, and hail would be the primary threat with the strongest of these storms.

Tonight into Monday morning, a second batch of rain will likely move in from the coastline. These spotty rain chances will spread inland during the early morning hours.
