Florida SouthWestern State College’s softball team is celebrating its third national title in a row.

They won the title in Alabama on Saturday night. Despite all their recent success, this year was a struggle.

“You know, and our kids with a hurricane got sent home,” said Roy Allen, the FSW Sports Director. “Three weeks. Sorry, emotional. But, you know, it was a tough fall for our kids and for them to persevere through all that distraction, all the work. They had to go through and then come together as a team to play a very grueling schedule.”

“I’m feeling great,” said Feline Poot, one of the softball players. “I’m feeling like I’m on top of the world. I just feel like I got everything I want in life right now. I’m so happy.”

According to Allen, the team celebrated their last two wins by jumping into a river outside their hotel. This year they were sprayed with a firehose.

Poot said these moments are part of what keeps them going.

“That’s tough, and for a lot of our girls, we are far from home, so we’re homesick, and you get tired and you want to, you know, talk to your parents, but because of our differences, or the time difference, it doesn’t, it doesn’t work, so is it so much more that goes into it than actually just what you do on the field,” Poot said.

The team enjoyed a celebratory dinner Saturday. An official championship celebration is scheduled for Tuesday morning in the Suncoast Arena.
