A Fort Myers man was sentenced to more than 25 years in federal prison on several charges, including possessing fentanyl pills with the intention to sell.

According to the Department of Justice, Manuel Alfredo Dickerson Copland, 30, was sentenced to 26 years and 10 months in prison.

Copland was found guilty of possessing MDMA, oxycodone and attempted possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. Also, the court ordered him to give up firearms, ammo and a vehicle, which were all used to facilitate the offenses.

Copland was stopped by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Narcotics Team while driving his truck. Detectives found almost 1,500 fentanyl pills, MDMA, oxycodone and three firearms.

Authorities began investigating Copland and found he was associated with mail packages believed to have drugs inside shipped to him in Fort Myers.

The United States Postal Inspection Service seized a package linked to Copland with about four pounds of methamphetamine from California.
