A burn ban is now in effect for unregulated fires for all of Hendry County as dry weather conditions impact the area.

The burn ban comes after nine fires broke out Monday night following a lightning storm, which ignited wildfires and caused power outages.

According to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, the local American Red Cross has relocated two people who have been evacuated. At least five homes were evacuated due to the fires.

Crews had to shut down the power grid in the area. It’s not yet known if the power has been restored Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

The county doesn’t want you burning any wood, fireplaces or burning any kind of materials outside.
