The Bonita Springs Fire Rescue Marine Unit went out on the water to practice real-life training tp prepare for a medical emergency with new technology.

The machine gives automatic chest compressions.

Bonita Springs Fire Rescue medical director Dr. Benjamin Abo said only so many crew members can come on the boat, so every hand counts.

“We have more hands not getting tired from doing CPR. We can do the breathing medications. We can do intubation, anything we need to do without getting tired,” Abo said.

Crews practiced everything from the best techniques to getting a victim in the boat using Dr. Abo, and then once they got him up, switched to a mannequin to practice the chest compressions with the device.

The marine unit is going to continue practicing with this new technology, and they have eight more compression devices on the way.
