No plan for flooding relief on Palm Beach Blvd. until 2027

Published: Updated:

If you don’t like driving through flooded roads and you use Palm Beach Boulevard in Fort Myers, it’ll be a while before there’s any relief.

The road is usually also associated with crashes, and there’s a project coming up to help fix that issue, but what about the flooding?

That’s the question we asked, and we got an answer from Peter Bieniek, Director of Public Works for the City of Fort Myers.

“What we are in the process of doing right now is a stormwater master plan. In that stormwater master plan, we’ll look at the city as a whole. It’s … a three-year process to get the full stormwater master plan,” Bieniek said.

That means no change until at least 2027.

For now, neighbors said they will continue to take matters into their own hands by towing cars stuck in floodwaters or clearing out storm drains before any expected heavy rain events.
