Credit: WINK News The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that occurred between a Sarasota County deputy’s SUV and a bicyclist. According to FHP, the crash occurred on Thursday at around 11:38 p.m. while the SUV was traveling north on U.S. 41, on the northbound outside lane, approaching a green traffic signal at the intersection of Bay Street. FHP then reported that the bicyclist, a 22-year-old woman from Osprey, was traveling across the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 from the east to the west at the same intersection in front of the approaching deputy SUV. The front left portion of the SUV then collided with the 22-year-old, causing critical injuries to the woman. She was transported to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
