By Florida law, voter registration closes 29 days before an electionβthe deadline to register to vote by mail is on Aug. 20. Registrants have until midnight on Monday to submit their forms. Fort Myers City Council members, Cape Coral City Council members, County Commissioners, and school board members will be elected next month. Tommy Doyle, Lee County Supervisor of Elections, stresses the importance of local races. “The local races are the most important, especially for me,” Doyle said. “Cape Coral is huge. We got I think 16 candidates running for city council in Cape Coral. So it’s very contentious. I think that’s going to bring a lot of voters out.” The deadline to vote in the Florida general election is Nov. 5.
