From more cameras and cards that track students to even bringing guns into schools, we’ve seen what has already been done to make sure children are protected in class, but every school year brings new safety concerns.

In Collier County, students return in two weeks.

The school district views security in layers, and one of those layers is access control.

Instead of having physical keys, all teachers and staff have badges that allow them to swipe into classrooms and buildings.

Chad Oliver with the Collier County School District said that access control helps to make sure all of a school’s doors are locked within seconds.

“Every time an employee leaves the school or leaves the district, you don’t want to have to remake keys for all of these doors. Access control is brilliant because with a swipe of the badge, you know immediately should that person have access to that part of the school, that part of the building, that classroom, and you can change access control within a second,” he said.

Since Aubrey Rogers High School is the newest district school, it has the most access control points.

Community members will have a chance to see this safety and security in action on Tuesday during a safety walk-through at Aubrey Rogers.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m.
