The City of Cape Coral has announced an award of over $44 million in grants for public facilities, infrastructure and planning projects.

The funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program will support long-term recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ian.

The projects awarded grant funding include the Community Recreation Center and Disaster Shelter, Weir Rehabilitation Upgrade or Replacement Project and Planning Initiatives.

Hurricane Ian struck Lee County on Sept. 28, 2022, resulting in extensive damage and severely affecting the region’s infrastructure.

Funding like this helps in the continued recovery for the area.

On Tuesday, the Town of Fort Myers Beach announced that it was awarded more than $13 million for recovery efforts from HUD CDBG-DR.

The grant funding will need to go before the Cape Coral City Council for award acceptance.
