An ethics watchdog has filed a complaint against Florida Congressman Byron Donalds, demanding that the Office of Congressional Ethics investigate him for failing to follow federal law.

“The Campaign Legal Center” discovered that Donalds made more than 100 stock transactions totaling $1.6 million in 2022 and 2023 and failed to disclose them within 45 days as required by the Stock Act.

Business Insider initially reported the news on Friday; however, WINK News contacted Donalds for an exclusive statement regarding the complaint.

A spokesman responded with the following, “All stock trades on behalf of Congressman Donalds and his wife are completed by third-party professionals without their direction or approval. The congressman is working to reconcile any outstanding infractions and follow all necessary procedures to ensure proper compliance.”

The law is designed to prevent insider trading and ensure the public is aware of a lawmaker’s financial dealings in real time.

The watchdog group is requesting an investigation to determine whether Donalds’ “knowingly and willfully” failed to disclose his tradings in “an attempt to avoid public scrutiny of potential conflicts of interest.”

Donalds did disclose his stock trades in annual forms in August 2023 and 2024.

Donalds represents Florida’s 19th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, which covers a portion of Southwest Florida, from Lee County to Collier County.
