Two fires in 24 hours displaces families in Fort Myers

Two vicious fires left families’ homes and lives in ruins. Now, we are learning what help they are getting until their lives can be put back together.

The Fort Myers Fire Department confirmed both fires at the Retreat and Vista Lake were unrelated.

Saturday’s fire was caused by crews using a torch on the roof of building 13. Sunday’s fire started after moving boxes were left too close to the stove.

The families are now staying at a hotel. WINK News spoke with the hotel earlier today and they said the families will be there until Tuesday, but they don’t know what will happen after that.

The Red Cross told WINK News that 14 units were impacted this weekend.

People who can’t get back into the apartments say they remain hopeful.

“All I need is prayers, and God will take care of everything, but that’s what we need the most: prayers,” said one of the residents who was displaced.

WINK News has contacted management about the next steps for those displaced and has not received a response yet.
