One person is detained, and one has been transported with a gunshot wound after an incident at a house on Wilson Road, east of Punta Gorda.

On Tuesday morning, units responded to a resident for a domestic incident where a subject had reportedly battered his girlfriend.

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell spoke on the matter.

“He had fled before deputies arrived on the scene. Deputies attempted to locate him throughout the day, and then at about 5 p.m., we were called back here in reference to shots being fired,” said Prummell.

Upon arrival, deputies located the subject in his 50s, who had a gunshot wound to his back.

“It is alleged that the subject from earlier, who’d battered his girlfriend, had shot the subject, who was the father of the girl. The father had come over to confront him about battering his daughter but then left, and it is alleged that the shooter went and obtained a firearm from his car and then shot the father,” said Prummell.

The subject is currently being detained and questioned by detectives.
